What the service covers

A clear examination and a usable record.

If your business owns, operates or controls lifting equipment, LOLER requires it to be thoroughly examined at the correct interval. We inspect equipment on site, record its condition and safety-critical defects, and issue the statutory report you need to demonstrate compliance.

Before the visit we agree which equipment will be available, the inspection basis and any access requirements. If a finding needs urgent action, it is explained at the time rather than left for the report alone.

What we look at.

Identity and marking

Equipment identity, safe working load and required markings are checked against the available records.

Structural condition

Load-bearing parts are assessed for wear, corrosion, distortion, cracking and other deterioration.

Mechanical function

Ropes, chains, sheaves, brakes, hydraulics and moving parts are checked as applicable.

Safety devices

Limit switches, overload protection, interlocks, controls and emergency stops are examined where fitted.

Practical answers about scope, intervals and the record you receive.

How often is a LOLER thorough examination required?
Lifting equipment used to lift people and lifting accessories are normally examined at least every six months. Other lifting equipment is normally examined at least every twelve months, unless a competent person has set a different interval in a written examination scheme.
Is a LOLER examination the same as maintenance?
No. Maintenance keeps equipment in working order. A thorough examination is a separate, systematic assessment of the equipment and its safety-critical parts, completed by a competent person and followed by a written report.
What happens if a dangerous defect is found?
You are told immediately and the defect is recorded in the report. Equipment with an existing or imminent risk of serious personal injury must not continue in use until the risk has been addressed, and the relevant enforcing authority may also need to receive the report.
Do you provide the report on the same day?
Same-day digital reporting is available for inspections completed with the required equipment information and access. We explain any urgent action before leaving site.
